KSU Academic Affairs Strategic Plan

Print

While working as a graphic designer at IdeaBase, Kent State’s student powered advertising agency I led the design on a 60-page strategic plan booklet for Office of Academic Affairs. This project gave me an open book to try anything I wanted inside long as it adhered to Kent State brand guidelines, used KSU’s photo library, and got approval from the university’s marketing department.

After spending five years viewing the university’s existing materials I wanted to make a piece that visually stood out, and wanted the booklet to feel like the high-end view books advertising agencies and famous designers make. At this time in my career I was heavily interested in printmaking, and learning about print production.

My approach with the photo treatments was to reinvent the images that were heavily used around the university, and break away from normal photo frame/crop to create movement across the pages. I used the three primary colors in KSU’s color palette to create the collages, and kept the content layout as organized as possible since it would be reviewed by many executives throughout the university.
